How can participation create change?
With this question in mind, we came together at a political participation workshop held yesterday, 16 June, as part of Refugee Week Greece 2026, hosted by ECHO100PLUS & ECHO HUB Athens.
The workshop was facilitated by Yonous Muhammadi, Director of the Greek Forum of Refugees, who opened a meaningful discussion on the political and active participation of people with refugee and migrant backgrounds in decision-making processes that affect their everyday lives.

During the discussion, participants reflected on the real challenges many people face in their daily lives: finding employment, accessing housing, and overcoming barriers that often create the feeling that society does not change and that participation has little impact.
Through the exchange of experiences and perspectives, we discussed how change does not come only through services and support, important as they are, but also through understanding one’s rights, engaging actively in civic life, and ensuring that people’s voices are heard where decisions are being made.
Participation means more than simply being present. It means having the opportunity to express your views, claim your rights, and actively contribute to shaping the communities in which you live.
We warmly thank everyone who took part in the discussion, ECHO100PLUS and ECHO HUB Athens for hosting the workshop, and Food Yoga Greece for providing the buffet, which offered participants the opportunity to continue their conversations and get to know one another in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
