The Greek Forum of Refugees (GFR) is a partner in HOST – Tackling Human Trafficking in the Hospitality sector, a 24-month AMIF project, coordinated by KMOP. HOST aims to prevent and combat sexual and labour exploitation of migrants and refugees, third-country nationals (TCNs), in the hospitality sector, particularly in highly touristic areas. The project runs 01/06/2025 – 31/05/2027.
What HOST does:
HOST works to prevent and combat sexual and labour exploitation of migrants and refugees, third-country nationals (TCNs), in the hospitality sector, especially in highly touristic areas.
It does this by:
-
- Raising awareness in the hospitality sector about what fuels exploitation, the warning signs, and practical steps for safe recruitment and due diligence
-
- Improving early identification of trafficking cases through stronger inspection mechanisms and cooperation with employers
-
- Providing tailored, survivor-centred support (legal, administrative and social help) and targeted referrals
-
- Building long-term integration pathways that reduce the risk of re-trafficking
-
- and Strengthening municipal capacity and multi-stakeholder cooperation agreements, so local actors work together effectively
HOST brings together local authorities, labour inspectorates, trade unions, migrant communities and NGOs to design trainings for employers and municipal staff, “Know your rights” sessions for workers, and clear protocols for referrals and follow-up.
The partnership’s work is aligned with the EU Anti-Trafficking Strategy (2021-2025) and the revised Anti-Trafficking Directive (entered into force 14 July 2024), which strengthens prevention, victim support and enforcement across Member States.
GFR’s role:
As an association of refugee/migrant communities, GFR helps engage refugee/migrant communities, co-design outreach and “know your rights” actions, and ensure survivor-centred, practical tools that work for both workers and employers.
First activity now live: a short survey for hospitality employers:
We invite owners and managers in the hospitality sector (hotels, restaurants, cafés, catering, travel/events, attractions and related services) to complete a brief survey. Findings will shape HOST trainings, employer tools, and local protocols so businesses can prevent exploitation and protect staff, especially migrant and refugee workers.
The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete, and it is anonymous; no names or contact details are required, IP addresses are protected, and responses are handled under GDPR-compliant research ethics used by the HOST consortium.
