We stand in solidarity with Collective Aid and Samos Volunteers, as they call for an end to Greece’s inhumane Closed Controlled Access Centre (CCAC) system.
At the Greek Forum of Refugees, we continue to witness the devastating impact of CCAC’s structures that isolate, dehumanize, and violate the basic rights of people seeking safety. Plans to open yet another CCAC in Vastria, Lesvos -even more remote and securitized- must not move forward.
The European Commission must:

- Take responsibility for its direct role in enabling the failure to uphold basic protection standards for people on the move in Greece

- Recognize the systemic failures and human cost of the CCAC model

- Commit to a clear and concrete roadmap for implementing humane, rights-based alternatives for the reception and support of asylum seekers in Greece
