The Greek Forum of Refugees co-signs the Joint Statement of more than 50 Civil Society Organizations regarding the bill of the Ministry of Migration and Asylum and the proposed amendments to Articles 24 and 25 of the Migration Code.
Under the proposed provisions, the status of being an employee or member of an organization registered in the Ministry’s NGO Registry becomes criminally punishable, leading to felony charges, in violation of fundamental principles of the rule of law and the right to freedom of association.
Despite repeated recommendations from the European Union, the Council of Europe and the UN, the Ministry continues to target civil society organizations simply because they carry out their work.
We call for the immediate withdrawal of these provisions.
