We are excited to announce that the Greek Forum of Refugees actively participates and supports European Alternatives in their crucial initiative, the Democratic Odyssey, a pioneering campaign advocating for a permanent European People’s Assembly, where the participants will be able to express themselves and be heard on key issues in the highest institutions of the Union, shaping the future of Europe.
Why does this matter?
Recent EU elections have shown a divide: declining voter turnout and rising far-right populism in some countries, contrasted with strong pro-European movements in others. With global challenges such as wars, climate change, and democratic backsliding, it’s vital that citizens are more involved in decision-making processes. The goal is to empower citizens to actively shape the future of Europe!
Where and when will this take place?
The inaugural assembly of the ‘Democratic Odyssey’ will take place in Athens from 27 to 29 September 2024 under the auspices of the Municipality of Athens and with the participation of 200 citizens from across Europe, representatives of civil society, refugees and migrants.
Can I participate?
The call for participation is open to migrants and refugees (Global Citizens) – people who do not have a European Union passport or no passport at all, migrants, refugees, stateless people and other marginalised groups – to contribute to an important discussion on the future of Europe. At the same time, the organisation offers Global Citizens a stipend of 50€ per day (150€ for the participation on the three days of the assembly). The language of participation is English and Greek.
