This time we count 15 dead and 24 injured. Children, women, men – including two pregnant women who miscarried. No further “justification” is needed. There is no room for self-deception. And we are not afraid to speak the truth: this is a brutal crime.
For us, there is one and only one truth: the one told by the survivors themselves – women and children – that a Coast Guard vessel “appeared in the middle of the night and passed over the boat”, and that no sound or light signals were given beforehand. We have nothing more to add. We do not believe we will see justice, no matter how many “investigations” are conducted or how many convictions are announced.
This is not the first tragedy. And unfortunately, as it seems, it will not be the last, as long as this clear policy of “protecting the borders at any cost, even with deaths and the loss of human lives” continues, and as long as we keep hearing again and again that “their lives must be made unlivable”.
What we present today is simply an honest cry to society: do not grow accustomed to this injustice. Do not grow accustomed to death and crime. Because if we do, we will all pay the price.
The rest is everything we have been saying for years. It is everything we said on 20 December 2024: https://refugees.gr/el/ούτε-ατύχημα-ούτε-διστύχημα-ένα-στυ/
And we have nothing further to add.
