GFR in INNOVATE: Policy Dialogue on the Rights of Children in Migration

As part of its strategic cooperation with the International Rescue Committee (IRC), the Greek Forum of Refugees (GFR) participates in the European project INNOVATE – Innovating to Enhance Dialogues on Migration Policies and Practices, which is funded by the European Union’s Horizon programme.

The INNOVATE project aims to strengthen evidence-based policymaking in the field of migration by bridging the gap between research, policy, and lived experience. Through innovative methods of dialogue and collaboration, the project seeks to ensure that migration policies respond to the real needs of the people directly affected by them.

Within the framework of INNOVATE, IRC Hellas, with the contribution of the GFR as a strategic partner, is organising on 30 January 2026 the conference Children and the European Pact on Migration and Asylum: Challenges and Opportunities for Protection and Inclusion, at Impact Hub Athens.

The conference focuses on the impact of the implementation of the European Pact on Migration and Asylum on children -both accompanied and unaccompanied- and aspires to serve as a space for meaningful dialogue among policymakers, field practitioners, academics, and people with lived experience of migration.

The GFR actively contributes to the organisation of the conference by supporting the participation of individuals with migrant and refugee experience and by strengthening the inclusion of directly affected voices in policymaking processes. Through thematic working groups and plenary sessions, the conference aims to co-develop realistic and implementable policy recommendations, placing children’s rights and the best interests of the child at the centre.
