The arrest and extradition process of Norwegian activist Tommy Olsen, in execution of a European arrest warrant, raises serious concerns regarding the targeting of human rights defenders.
The case falls within a broader context of prosecutions against individuals and organizations working to support refugees and migrants. At the same time, international bodies and decisions of European courts have highlighted the existence of systematic pushbacks at the country’s borders.
Following the recent acquittal of members of humanitarian organizations in similar cases, concerns are intensifying regarding the continuation of such prosecutions.
Organizations call on the Greek and European authorities to:

- Investigate complaints regarding pushbacks

- Ensure the protection of fundamental human rights

- Stop the systematic misinformation against individuals and organizations providing protection to asylum seekers, refugees, and vulnerable persons in general
