Racist Violence Recording Network: Concern over the worsening climate against refugees and migrants in political and public discourse

The Racist Violence Recording Network (RVRN), of which the Greek Forum of Refugees is a founding member, expresses deep concern over the deterioration of public discourse into xenophobic and racist narratives, triggered by the recent increase in arrivals in Crete.

The use of terms like “illegal immigrant” and the portrayal of these arrivals as an “invasion” fuel social division and intolerance, while violent incidents, such as the flare attack in Rethimno, confirm the dangerous consequences of such rhetoric.

The Network emphasizes the need for an evidence-based public dialogue, respect for the right to asylum, and the humane treatment of all refugees and migrants. This responsibility lies with all of us, and especially with institutional actors.
