On the 12th of March 2019, the candidacy for the upcoming elections of the President of the Greek Forum of Refugees, Mr Yonous Muhammadi, was announced.
The association’s newly elected Board of Directors convened and held an urgent meeting in order to assess Mr Muhammadi’s candidacy in correlation with the operational and strategic position of the Greek Forum of Refugees.
The Greek Forum of Refugees throughout its course, from 2010 until the present day, serves, defends and persistently supports the rights of refugees and migrants on a national, European and international level.
The inclusion and the active participation of the people in the social, political and economical framework of this country is the main objective for which all of us work together to achieve.
We are proud of Mr Muhammadi’s candidacy who decided, after concrete thought, to strive for a Europe that accepts diversity and supports equal social rights and opportunities for everyone. The reasons, in other words, that we all strive to materialize and we will continue doing so.
Throughout the existence of the Greek Forum of Refugees, many personalities – members of the association – were themselves candidates for different political combinations. This, in itself, proves that our work has a real political and social impact, which gives us motivation to put even more effort on our work and achieve our goals in cooperation with all the members of our society without any discrimination.
Nevertheless, the Board of Directors decided that the position of the Greek Forum of Refugees should be clearly separated, regardless of the political choices of any of the members of the association who will choose, in their own right, to be candidate in the elections.
The main objective of the Greek Forum of Refugees is the continuous struggle for the refugee and migrant active participation and engagement in the social, political and economical reality of this country, and not to affiliate itself with any political party.
Therefore, we wish to Mr Muhammadi all the best in his efforts.
For the Greek Forum of Refugees,
The Board of Directors
