November 25th: International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women
The Greek Forum of Refugees participates and stresses the importance of understanding the widespread problem of gender violence in Greece, Europe and the whole world. The GFR emphasizes that when one in three women have suffered some form of gender violence during their lifetime the problem of refugee women is a plague.
We call for measures to ensure safer transition and living conditions for refugee women in all the country’s structures and to ensure the protection of vulnerable populations.
Rape, beatings and sexual exploitation during the journey of these women while others attempt to escape violence because of their gender in their homelands are not tolerable.
