We are excited to announce the successful completion of the first round of the “Food for All” program and hundreds of vulnerable families have received basic food items. However, the needs are great, highlighting the pervasive issue of poverty. Many families, especially refugees and migrants with children, continue to struggle below the poverty line.
Our dedicated staff and social workers have tried and are trying to address not only the immediate need for food, but also to connect individuals with other essential services. Their patience and empathy have made a significant difference in the better implementation of the program.
We are also excited to announce the continuation of the program throughout 2024, thanks to the continued support of our two important partners, Intersos Hellas and Stichting Vluchteling. We are already planning our next distribution for February, with plans for regular distributions at the end of each month.
From the beginning we have tried to expand the project to Refugee Reception Centres near Athens, such as Malakasa, Ritsona and Thiva. These isolated centres face even greater challenges, as almost half of the population has no access to food. We are working closely with the communities living in these centres to ensure effective distribution in the difficult living conditions for refugees.
We are grateful for the availability of the humanitarian organization, Cheering, for supporting us with their skilled team in implementing the program in the refugee centres.
A warm thank you to the Congolese Community in Athens for generously providing space for the organization and distribution of the food. And special appreciation to our interpreters and volunteers whose dedication made this initiative possible. Together, we are making a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need.
